"OLD NUMBER ONE"

Vida Nueva

Vida Nueva (A New Life) 1979-2009

An alcohol and drug prevention and recovery program. Vida Nueva has for thirty years been dedicated to providing an environment conducive to recovering alcoholics without regard to race, creed, or ethnic origin. The program is administered in tandem with the city, courts and jails.

Charlie Lostaunau and Mario Sanchez

The Vida Nueva Program

Now in our 30th year, Vida Nueva has helped more than 3,000 adult males and their families to return to productive lives.

In a pleasant home atmosphere and rural setting, Vida Nueva combines essential qualities of living with a convenient location. Our home faces the Eastridge Shopping mall, and our backyard has acres of grassland. A unique situation in a major city.

Our bilingual/bicultural staff provides peer-level recovery resources and leadership. We specialize in cultural competence for Hispanics, but we welcome residents of other cultures. We firmly believe that interaction between people of diverse cultures enhances our understanding of each other.

Our 90-day minimum program is for men 18 years of age or older who have had at least 72 hours of abstinence, who require no nursing care, and who agree to abide by the program regulations.

Residents are often referred to Vida Nueva by their family, co-workers, employers, church, union, social service organization, doctor or friends. Often times, a person who is stressed by the proximity of drugs and alcohol in their everyday lives, will simply come to Vida Nueva on their own to make a positive change in their life.

Transit Friendly
We are right on the 22, 26, 70 and 77 buslines and close to the Eastridge transit hub. Our house is easy to get to and from your job, school, downtown, anywhere!

Large Rooms
Only three beds to a room (no bunk beds.) Pleasantly appointed. We also have ADA approved beds and bathrooms to serve the physically disabled.

Drug Testing
Vida Nueva is equipped to conduct testing at our residential facility. We are Adult Drug Treatment Court certified. Residents are tested randomly if needed, or as stipulated by probation, parole, judicial, or other referring angencies.

Amenities
We believe a clean, positive atmosphere with excellent recreational options (for the mind and body) are essential to our client's recovery. At Vida Nueva, there is a living room for reading, watching television and the latest videos and visiting with your friends and family. We have a billiards room, too, and it has another television set. Out of doors, we offer weight lifting, volleyball and basketball courts, kick/punching bag, horseshoe pitching, a cultivated garden and acres of land for green thumbers. Lake Cunningham Regional Park is close by.

A.A. and N.A. Meetings
Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held at Vida Nueva on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 8:00PM.
The Wednesday meeting is in Spanish.

Vida nueva is the only community based, bilingual, non-profit program for Hispanics in Santa Clara County, California. We are independent. There is no government funding. We set our own values. We create a culturally relevant environment for sobriety that works.
